Much has been talked in the press just a while ago regarding the bingo industry singing the blues as a result of the cigarette ban in England. Conditions have become so bad that in Scotland the Bingo industry has called for massive aid to assist in keeping the industry from going bankrupt. But will the net adaptation of this quintessential game offer a lifeline, or might it never compare to its bricks and mortar opposite?
Bingo is an ancient game normally enjoyed by the "blue rinse" generation. However the game recently had undergone a recent return in popularity with younger people deciding to visit the bingo parlours instead of the bars on a Friday night. All this is about to get flipped on its head with the introduction of the anti cigarette law around United Kingdom.
No more will gamblers be permitted to smoke at the same time marking off their numbers. Beginning in the summer of 2007 all public areas will no longer be allowed to permit smoking in their locations and this includes Bingo halls, which are possibly the most popular areas where players like to puff on cigarettes.
The results of the cigarette ban can already be looked at in Scotland where smoking is already illegal in the bingo parlors. Numbers have plummeted and the business is beyond a doubt struggling for its life. But where did the players go? Obviously they have not forgotten this familiar game?
The answer is online. People realize that they can participate in bingo from their computer whilst enjoying a drink and cig and still enjoy monstrous prizes. This is a recent phenomenon and has timed itself bordering on perfect with the anti cigarette law.
Of course gambling on on the internet can never replace the collective portion of going down to the bingo hall, but for a group of people the law has left a number of bingo enthusiasts with little choice.
