An abundance has been reported in the press not long ago concerning the bingo industry singing the blues as a result of the smoking ban in the UK. Things have become so awful that in Scotland the Bingo industry has demanded huge aid to assist in keeping the industry alive. But can the web adaptation of this classic game provide a escape, or will it not compare to its bricks and mortar equivalent?
Bingo has been an ancient game historically enjoyed by the "blue haired" generation. However the game recently had undergone a recent resurgence in appeal with younger men and women deciding to hit the bingo parlours instead of the bars on a weekend. All this is about to get flipped on its head with the enforcement of the smoking ban across UK.
No more will enthusiasts be able to puff on cigarettes whilst marking numbers. Starting in the summer of 2007 every public location will no longer be allowed to permit smoking in their locations and this includes Bingo parlors, which are possibly the most favored locations where players like to smoke.
The outcome of the anti smoking law can already be felt in Scotland where cigarettes are already forbidden in the bingo parlors. Players have plunged and the industry is absolutely fighting for its life. But where did the players go? Of course they haven’t given up on this classic game?
The answer is on the internet. Gamblers are now realizing that they can play bingo from their computer while enjoying a beer and smoke and still have a chance at massive cash rewards. This is a recent anomaly and has happened bordering on perfect with the ban on cigarettes.
Of course gambling on on the internet is unlikely to replace the communal aspect of going down to the bingo parlor, but for a demographic of people the law has left a lot of bingo enthusiasts with no choice.
