Will the Anti Smoking Law in England Take Bingo Enthusiasts On to the Internet?

[ English ]

A lot has been reported in the papers just a while ago about the bingo industry being hit because of the cigarette ban in the United Kingdom. Things have become so awful that in Scotland the Bingo industry has asked for huge aid to assist in keeping the industry from going bankrupt. However will the internet variation of this quintessential game present a reprieve, or might it never compare to its bricks and mortar equivalent?

Bingo is an ancient game usually enjoyed by the "blue haired" generation. For all that the game lately had witnessed a recent resurgence in acceptance with younger members of society opting to hit the bingo parlours in place of the clubs on a weekend. This is all about to be destroyed with the legislating of the anti smoking law around England and Wales.

Players will no longer be permitted to smoke at the same time marking off their numbers. From the summer of 2007 every public location will no longer be allowed to permit smoking in their locations and this includes Bingo parlours, one of the most favored places where people like to smoke.

The outcome of the anti cigarette law can already be seen in Scotland where cigarettes are already prohibited in the bingo halls. Numbers have plummeted and the business is beyond a doubt fighting for to stay alive. But where did the players go? Certainly they have not cast aside this classic game?

The answer is on the internet. People realize that they can gamble on bingo in front of their computer at the same time enjoying a cocktail and cigarette and in the end, enjoy huge cash rewards. This is a recent development and has happened almost perfectly with the ban on smoking.

Of course betting on on the web can never replace the social aspect of heading over to the bingo hall, but for a demographic of players the law has left a good many bingo players with no choice.
