Might the Anti Smoking Law in the UK Drive Bingo Players On to the Internet?

Much has been stated in the press recently about the bingo industry being hit as a result of the cigarette ban in England. Conditions have become so poor that in Scotland the Bingo industry has asked for massive tax cuts to help keep the businesses from going bankrupt. However does the net variation of this classic game provide a escape, or might it in no way compare to its real life equivalent?

Bingo has been an familiar game historically played by the "blue haired" generation. However the game recently had seen a recent increase in acceptance with younger people opting to visit the bingo parlours in place of the clubs on a Friday night. This is all about to be destroyed with the introduction of the smoking ban throughout England and Wales.

No longer will players be permitted to puff on cigarettes whilst marking numbers. Beginning in the summer of 2007 every public area will no longer be allowed to permit smoking in their locations and this includes Bingo parlors, one of the most favorite places where players like to puff on cigarettes.

The outcome of the cigarette ban can already be observed in Scotland where smoking is already illegal in the bingo parlors. Players have plunged and the industry is beyond a doubt struggling for to stay alive. But where have the players gone? Obviously they have not given up on this ancient game?

The answer is on the web. People realise that they can wager on bingo using their computer at the same time enjoying a cocktail and fag and still enjoy monstrous jackpots. This is a recent phenomenon and has timed itself bordering on perfect with the anti smoking law.

Of course gambling on on the internet can never replace the collective part of going down to the bingo hall, but for a group of men and women the law has left a lot of bingo players with no choice.
