Will the Cigarette Ban in Britain Force Bingo Players On to the Internet?

A lot has been stated in the papers not long ago about the bingo industry being hurt because of the cigarette ban in Britain. Conditions have become so awful that in Scotland the Bingo industry has demanded huge tax cuts to assist in keeping the businesses from going bankrupt. But will the net adaptation of this traditional game provide a reprieve, or will it never compare to its land based relative?

Bingo has been an established game generally played by the "blue haired" generation. However the game lately had undergone a recent return in appeal with younger people deciding to go to the bingo parlours instead of the bars on a Friday night. This is all about to get flipped on its head with the legislating of the cigarette ban throughout UK.

Players will no longer be permitted to smoke at the same time marking off their numbers. Starting in the summer of ‘07 all public locations will no longer be allowed to permit smoking in their venues and this includes Bingo parlours, which are possibly the most common areas where people like to smoke.

The results of the anti smoking law can already be felt in Scotland where smoking is already illegal in the bingo parlours. Players have plunged and the business is absolutely struggling for its life. But where have all the players gone? Obviously they haven’t given up on this established game?

The answer is online. Gamblers know that they can play bingo in front of their computer whilst enjoying a beer and fag and in the end, have a chance at massive prizes. This is a recent anomaly and has happened just about perfectly with the anti cigarette law.

Of course gambling on on the web is unlikely to replace the social aspect of going over to the bingo parlour, but for a group of men and women the rules have left many bingo players with little alternative.
