Could the Cigarette Ban in the United Kingdom Drive Bingo Enthusiasts On to the Net?

Much has been reported in the press recently regarding the bingo industry struggling as a result of the smoking ban in Britain. Conditions have grown so bad that in Scotland the Bingo industry has asked for big tax cuts to help keep the businesses afloat. But can the net version of this quintessential game present a reprieve, or might it in no way compare to its land based opposite?

Bingo has been an familiar game historically enjoyed by the "blue rinse" generation. In any case the game lately had witnessed a recent return in appeal with younger members of society deciding to visit the bingo halls rather than the bars on a Friday night. All this is about to get flipped on its head with the enacting of the anti cigarette law around England and Wales.

No longer will enthusiasts be permitted to puff on cigarettes at the same time dabbing numbers. From the summer of 2007 all public places will no longer be allowed to permit smoking in their venues and this includes Bingo parlors, which are possibly the most favorite areas where folks enjoy smoking.

The results of the cigarette ban can already be observed in Scotland where smoking is already prohibited in the bingo halls. Numbers have plummeted and the business is beyond a doubt struggling for its life. But where have all the players gone? Of course they haven’t forgotten this enduring game?

The answer is on the internet. Players realize that they can gamble on bingo from their computer at the same time enjoying a beverage and fag and in the end, have a chance at huge jackpots. This is a recent phenomenon and has timed itself bordering on perfect with the ban on cigarettes.

Of course gambling on on the web is unlikely to replace the collective aspect of going down to the bingo parlor, but for a group of people the law has left a good many bingo players with little choice.
