Bingo and Oklahoma: Two Peas in a Pod

Oklahoma has for a long time been synonymous with Bingo. That is because the Amerindian tribes of Oklahoma have provided Bingo games for generations. Clients from every one of the surrounding states load up in vans and travel to Oklahoma to gamble on Bingo over the weekends.

The 1988 (IGRA) Indian Gaming Regulatory Act was introduced after a landmark determination by The U.S. Supreme Court the year before. Since that instance, 23 of the 39 American Indian tribes located in Oklahoma have established gambling halls. The Chickasaw were the first Oklahoma American Indian band to take advantage of the wagering laws, and at this time control 10 gambling dens of their own. Bingo was the game on which the above-mentioned gambling halls were founded. Electronic games like slot machine games were not permitted, due to the fact that they’re thought to lead to gambling problems at a higher rate than bingo.

In the past few years, Oklahoma rules have altered to permit gigantic Indian wagering gambling halls. You’ll now see Amerindian casinos with slot machine games, video poker and blackjack tables. Craps and roulette are not legal in the American Indian casinos yet, but this is only a waiting game. Nobody can determine what having different casino games in the bingo parlours will do for the appeal of bingo.
