Could the Anti Smoking Law in Britain Force Bingo Players On to the Web?

An abundance has been stated in the papers recently concerning the bingo industry struggling because of the cigarette ban in the United Kingdom. Things have grown so poor that in Scotland the Bingo industry has asked for huge tax cuts to assist in keeping the businesses from going bankrupt. However will the internet adaptation of this traditional game offer a reprieve, or might it in no way compare to its bricks and mortar relative?

Bingo is an classic game usually enjoyed by the "blue haired" generation. Although the game recently had experienced a recent comeback in appeal with younger members of society opting to visit the bingo parlours instead of the clubs on a weekend. All this is about to be destroyed with the enforcement of the cigarette ban across Britain.

Players will no longer be allowed to puff on cigarettes while marking numbers. Beginning in the summer of ‘07 every public location will not be permitted to allow smoking in their buildings and this includes Bingo parlors, one of the most favorite areas where folks enjoy smoking.

The outcome of the anti cigarette law can already be observed in Scotland where smoking is already barred in the bingo halls. Profits have plummeted and the industry is beyond a doubt struggling for its life. But where have all the players gone? Certainly they haven’t abandoned this established game?

The answer is online. Gamblers are now realizing that they can bet on bingo in front of their computer while enjoying a beer and cigarette and in the end, have a chance at big jackpots. This is a recent anomaly and has happened just about perfectly with the ban on cigarettes.

Of course betting on on the net is unlikely to replace the social part of going over to the bingo parlor, but for a demographic of people the law has left many bingo players with little choice.
