Much has been talked in the press not long ago regarding the bingo industry being hit because of the anti smoking law in Britain. Things have grown so bad that in Scotland the Bingo industry has requested big aid to help keep the businesses from going bankrupt. However will the web variation of this classic game present a salvation, or might it not compare to its land based opposite?
Bingo has been an familiar game generally enjoyed by the "blue rinse" generation. Although the game of late had experienced a recent increase in acceptance with younger men and women deciding to visit the bingo halls instead of the bars on a Friday night. All this is about to change with the legislating of the anti cigarette law throughout United Kingdom.
Players will no longer be able to smoke whilst marking numbers. Beginning in the summer of ‘07 all public locations will not be allowed to permit cigarettes in their locations and this includes Bingo parlors, one of the most favored locations where many people like to puff on cigarettes.
The results of the cigarette ban can already be looked at in Scotland where smoking is already banned in the bingo halls. Players have plummeted and the business is absolutely fighting for to stay alive. But where did the players go? Certainly they haven’t given up on this classic game?
The answer is online. Gamblers realise that they can bet on bingo using their computer whilst enjoying a cocktail and cigarette and still enjoy huge cash rewards. This is a recent phenomenon and has timed itself almost perfectly with the anti cigarette law.
Of course gambling on online can never replace the communal part of going down to the bingo hall, but for a group of players the rules have left a good many bingo enthusiasts with little choice.
