Will the Cigarette Ban in England Force Bingo Players On to the Internet?

An abundance has been reported in the papers recently regarding the bingo industry being hit because of the smoking ban in England. Conditions have grown so awful that in Scotland the Bingo industry has demanded big aid to help keep the industry from going bankrupt. But will the net adaptation of this quintessential game present a reprieve, or will it in no way compare to its land based kin?

Bingo is an age old game historically enjoyed by the "blue haired" generation. For all that the game lately had experienced a recent return in acceptance with younger members of society deciding to hit the bingo parlours rather than the clubs on a Friday night. All this is about to be destroyed with the enacting of the cigarette ban throughout United Kingdom.

Players will no longer be able to smoke at the same time marking off their numbers. Beginning in the summer of ‘07 every public location will not be allowed to permit smoking in their buildings and this includes Bingo parlors, which are possibly the most favorite locations where folks enjoy smoking.

The results of the anti smoking law can already be looked at in Scotland where cigarettes are already illegal in the bingo halls. Players have plummeted and the industry is absolutely fighting for to stay alive. But where did the players go? Of course they haven’t abandoned this classic game?

The answer is online. Players realize that they can bet on bingo using their computer at the same time enjoying a beverage and cigarette and still have a chance at huge prizes. This is a recent anomaly and has timed itself almost perfectly with the ban on cigarettes.

Of course gambling on on the internet is unlikely to replace the communal aspect of heading down to the bingo parlour, but for a group of people the governing edicts have left a lot of bingo players with no choice.
